3 Ways to Elevate Your Brand as a Service-Based Entrepreneur

My friend – have you ever Googled yourself? If so, what did you see? Better yet, did you see anything at all?

In today’s digital age, you are mostly being defined by your online persona, and that’s the only way some people will see you today.

As service-based entrepreneurs, personal branding is critical because you are essentially the product you’re selling. And guess what? Products require packaging, and so do you – which comes in the form of personal branding.

There are many ways to build a personal brand – design, voice, visuals, style, and messaging all come to mind.

But, when it comes down to it, I find that it really boils down to 3 things:

People need to know, like, and trust you in order to buy from you.

It really is that simple. And I’m here to walk you through each phase.

Let’s dive in, shall we?

Know

This is where your ideal client is introduced to you and all of the magic you bring to the table.

Keep in mind, you want to be very clear and direct here because people are bombarded with noise every single day, and attention spans are…oh look a butterfly!  Lol jk

In all seriousness, though, I think sometimes we get so carried away with posting surface-level content (i.e. quotes, brunch, sunsets), that we forget to show up in a meaningful way that sheds light on the right things (hint hint: your services!)

So introduce yourself often, and remember that people aren’t mind-readers. Showcase who you are, who you serve, what you stand for and what you offer…and do it often.

Like

This is where people really grow fond of you. Because, let’s face it – people want to like the person who’s on the receiving end of their hard-earned money. Think about it – why do people buy Kim Kardashian’s perfume before even smelling it? And why do advertisers allocate most of their advertising budget on influencers?

Because consumers tend to like the person they’re buying from.

But don’t try too hard. The key here is to lead with authenticity – y’know, Cardi B style.

Here are three ways to do that:

  1. Be yourself – don’t try to imitate what others are doing. Rely solely on your awesomeness instead (we both know there’s A LOT in there!)
  2. Showcase your personality – What excites you? What makes you laugh? Or cry? Any hidden talents? Guilty pleasures? Lay it all out on the table!
  3. Connect on a human, personal level – share the ups, the downs, the hopes, the fears and everything in between. You’ll be surprised at how powerful it can be.

Trust

This is a big one. In a world where people are constantly trying to scam others or benefit at someone else’s expense, it is becoming harder and harder to

it is critical for you to build trust with your audience in a true and meaningful way.

A great way to build trust is to position yourself as a thought leader in your industry. Share relevant news articles, engage in important conversations, educational content, speak at an event, host a training…there are many approaches you can take in regards to showcasing thought leadership, and I recommend leaning towards the ones that match your interests or your strengths.

Additionally, showcasing social proof and credibility are both great ways you can build a positive personal brand. People like to vet their options, and solid testimonials, credentials and relevant experience are all great ways to prove yourself.

At the end of the day, you are your brand and your brand is you.

For service-based entrepreneurs, building a personal brand has never been more important than it is today. When it comes to building an audience, positioning yourself as an expert, and attracting your ideal client, personal branding is the name of the game.
